The keystone of every nutritional product line is a multiple vitamin-mineral supplement. At Thorne, we believe this is the starting point for every individual's supplementation needs and that these products should contain all the essential nutrients. We also believe that by using the purest, most bioavailable raw materials – those without unnecessary additives and preservatives – every individual's outcome will be optimized.
Research indicates foods high in antioxidant nutrients are important components of a healthy diet. However, most Americans do not eat the recommended five servings of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables each day and need extra supplementation to keep up with their antioxidant demands. In addition, an unhealthy lifestyle can make one's cells prone to oxidative damage. Even those who strive to live a healthy life and engage in regular physical exercise need extra antioxidants to counter the oxidative stress of their increased metabolic activity.
Extra Nutrients was designed specifically for individuals with an increased oxidative burden who are looking for a daily multi-vitamin supplement with maximum antioxidant potential. It provides the optimal daily intake of a full complex of essential vitamins and minerals with the added benefit of additional antioxidants. Extra Nutrients is ideal for the person who needs extra antioxidant support, such as athletes, the aging, and individuals living in a particularly toxic environment.
Extra Nutrients is a comprehensive multiple vitamin-mineral formula that provides added benefits of these important antioxidants – reduced glutathione, R-lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, and hesperidin methyl chalcone. Features of Extra Nutrients include: (1) it contains all hypoallergenic ingredients; (2) it's free of pre-diluted ingredients and hidden preservatives; (3) it does not contain magnesium stearate or stearic acid that may interfere with absorption; (4) it provides the active forms of the B vitamins – folate and vitamins B2, B6, and B12; and (5) it contains advanced mineral forms for optimal absorption.

Folinic acid and 5-methyltetrahydrofolate supplementation is not recommended concurrent with methotrexate cancer therapy, as they can interfere with methotrexate's anti-neoplastic activity; however, these folate sources have not been shown to interfere with the anti-inflammatory activity of methotrexate. An individual taking methotrexate for psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis can safely take a supplement containing folate.
Vitamin C can cause diarrhea in some individuals in large doses, which can vary from person to person and resolves when the amount is reduced.
Gas, bloating, or diarrhea may occur in some individuals taking magnesium supplements. This can occur at varying amounts depending on the individual and resolves when the amount is reduced.
